SASO published a guideline for the RoHS technical regulation which will be mandatory starting from July 2022.

The Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) has published guidelines for the RoHS technical regulation. The technical regulation applies to the restriction of hazardous substances (RoHS) in electrical and electronic appliances and equipment.

Furthermore, the guideline outlines the conformity assessment procedures for the products covered by the technical regulation. In addition, the guide specifies the role of supervisory authorities in enforcing local supplier and manufacturer compliance before their products are placed on the Saudi market.

Previously, SASO delayed the mandatory implementation of the technical standard citing requests from the public sector as the reason. In addition, SASO opted to phase the implementation of the regulation. The first product category implementation will be on July 4, 2022.

SASO published the guideline to help facilitate the successful implementation of the technical regulation.

Product categories that will be affected by this regulation include:

  • Small household electrical appliances
  • Large household electrical appliance
  • Telecommunication and information technology equipment
  • Lightning equipment
  • Electrical and electronic equipment and tools
  • Toys and entertainment tools and appliances and sports equipment
  • Tools for monitoring and control

Cotecna is accredited by SASO to issue a Product Certificate of Conformity for compliant electrical and electronic appliances and equipment exported to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
