SFDA Update for Food Imported from Egypt

The SFDA now requires Egyptian food exporters to comply with the previously announced mandatory testing for specific fresh fruits and vegetables.

In a recent circular, the SFDA highlighted specific food products imported from Egypt. Specifically, grapes, leafy vegetables, strawberries, pomegranates, oranges, guavas, anise, cumin, dry beans, onions, lemons and grapefruit are subject to the previously announced mandatory requirements with immediate effect.

Following the circular published on the 6th of May 2021, stating that fresh fruits and vegetables imported from Egypt, India and Jordan are now subject to testing for pesticides and Hepatitis A.

The SFDA requires Egyptian exporters to comply with the new requirement starting on the October 15, 2021, except for the previously listed products which must comply with the mandatory conformity requirement immediately.
