The SFDA has updated its guidelines for fresh produce exported to Saudi Arabia.

The Saudi Arabia Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) has updated its guidelines for importing fresh produce into Saudi Arabia.

According to Circular 47084, SFDA now requires importers to maintain active accounts and register their products on the SFDA platform. In addition, importers must provide the following documents:

  1. Phytosanitary Certificate or Phytosanitary Certificate for re-export.
  2. Final invoice.
  3. Certificate of Origin.
  4. Packing list.
  5. Organic Product Certification.

NB: Importers are to keep the original copies of these documents for five years from the date of issue

Also, the update mentions the enforcement of the following standards:

  1. SFDA.FD/GSO 123 “GENERAL REQUIREMENTS FOR FRESH FRUITS AND VEGETABLES”.
  2. SFDA.FD 2500 “Additives Permitted for Use in Food Stuffs”.
  3. SFDA.FD/GSO 1814 “General Standard for Irradiated Foods”.
  4. SFDA.FD/GSO 2141 “General Requirements for Genetically Modified Unprocessed Agricultural Products”.
  5. SFDA.FD/GSO 124 “GENERAL REQUIREMENTS FOR FRESH FRUITS AND VEGETABLES BOXES”.
  6. SFDA.FD/GSO 323 “General Requirements for Transportation and Storage of Chilled and Frozen Foods.”.
  7. SFDA.FD/GSO 9 “Labeling of Prepackaged Food Stuffs”.
